Unpacking the Gift

“O what a gift! What a wonderful gift! Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?”

“And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you.” Joshua 23:14

How firm is our grasp of all the good things He has spoken concerning us? How heartfelt and often is our thanksgiving? How eager our persistence in calling on the Holy Spirit to take what belongs to Jesus and declare it to us, to lead us into all the Truth? How many of God’s words to me have I actually digested by the faith His Spirit gives me?

“… these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them Your word … Sanctify them in the truth….  the glory You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me… that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me… I have declared to them Your Name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”   His joy, His Father’s word, His cleansing Truth, His glory (how astounding!), sharing to the fulness of our gifted capacity in His oneness with the Father, having in us the very love with which the Father loves His Only Son, having Himself in us! What wonders! “Let us open our eyes, our ears and our hearts! It is Christ The Lord! It is He!”

In Him we live and move and have our new being. Forever yoked with Him, we embody His good news of a great joy for all people: “The time has come! The Kingdom of God has come near! Repent and believe the good news!”

No more time for dawdling, for slowness of heart to believe and wholeheartedly embrace God’s upward call in Christ Jesus! Time to stand firm in Him against the inundation of a clamouring, bullying world, in the inerasable joy of our fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, drinking into our minds and hearts this love that surpasses knowledge, that we may be filled with all the fulness of God!”

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your word: “If your eye be single, your whole body will be full of light.” Please help us to fix our eyes on You, Father’s Gift beyond all gifts! Unclog our minds and our mouths from all that does not glorify You. Help us to build up with You and not to accommodate in any way the enemy’s grey tide of levelling and destroying. You Who are Mighty have spoken great things concerning us. Holy is Your Name! Let it be done to us, O God, according to what You have spoken, that Your joy may be fulfilled in us. Please reveal Your Son in us that we may proclaim Him in the midst of a strident, invasive, God-cancelling world. So be it, Lord!
