Ever seen a mountain melt?

In Ireland, we are fortunate to enjoy some incredible sights and scenery, some of which are the monstrous mountains that soar into the sky. Mountains can be nice to look at or are wonderful as a backdrop to a photograph, but they are not so much fun when we are trying to climb them, especially when unfit!

Similarly, we can face what seem like insurmountable mountains as we journey through life, both internal and external. Sometimes these mountains are formed outside our control and are just set in front of us, other times we may even be responsible for the mountain we find ourselves having to scale. Regardless of the mountains we face, the Lord’s grace is sufficient in any and every situation when our hearts are turned and surrendered to Him.

Psalm 97:1 encourages us that no matter what we are challenged with in life we can boldly confess and proclaim this day that:

The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! (Psalm 97:1).

Over everything and all things, the LORD God Almighty reigns, in fact, all things are possible with and through Him. When we consider our God who reigns, Psalm 97 has something to say about the very mountains and their reaction in His presence:

His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. (Psalm 97:4-5)

Wow! The very mountains melt like wax before Him. But why would we even be surprised at this, as upon reflection, how could these mountains do anything else but melt before the One who spoke them into existence in the first place. No matter the mountain, it can not stand before God, it has no option but to melt.

Be encouraged today, whatever it is, a nation in chaos, a family smashed apart, a marriage in crisis, wayward sons or daughters, a financial crash, addictions, grief, deep pain and suffering, a broken life, terminal illness or deteriorating health, the LORD God Almighty reigns over it all.

Look to Him afresh today and take time to create space for the Holy Spirit to flood your life with His love and truth. In His presence, the biggest challenges in life have to bow before Him. Don’t let mountains dominate you today. Take as much time as you can to settle yourself in God’s presence, seek His perspective and experience His overwhelming peace.

Heavenly Father, we praise You today that no matter what we go through, You care for us and love us. Lord God Almighty, we exalt You as the only One who reigns over all things, the One who mountains melt like wax before. Thank you that whether you move the mountain or walk us over it, all things must bow before Your glorious presence. We ask that as we spend time in Your presence our minds, hearts and souls will flood with Your peace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
