The Space in Between

How close is your walk with Jesus?

Proximity in our walk with Jesus is vital to meaningful connection, hearing from Him and being heard by Him. The Bible invites us lovingly to a close walk with God;

Hebrews 10:22 says, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

James 4:8 states, Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Not only do we have this incredible beckoning to draw close, but God also desires and has made way for us to be continually up close and personal with Him in our lives. A very moving verse in John 14:23 proclaims Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

Wow!! Sit with that truth for a moment; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit want an ongoing intimate relationship with you; they want to come to you and make a home with you. Such a surreal blessing for us that the Godhead would be so closely entwined with us daily. But the truth is, we have a part to play also.

An illustration prompted by the Lord: an essential factor in connecting an internet router to a booster is that the booster device needs to be set within the range of the transmitting router. A green light means a good connection, an amber light means an okay connection but could be better, and a red light means no connection; the booster is out of range. Too far away from each other, and there’s no connection, just out of range. The point is that the space in between matters.

This is a time for individuals and churches to assess what’s in the space between: the space between the Lord and us. There may be good things, noble things, even great things in the space between, but anything that is cutting our intimacy or taking our focus away from Him or what He wants our focus to be on needs cut out as it’s costing us in our relationship with Him. Now is the time to refocus and clear out anything hindering us from drawing near Him and Him making a home with us. What status of light colour are you currently operating from, green, amber or red? As an encouraging father cheers on his child, God calls us deeper in these moments.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of being able to draw close to You. I repent of my sin. Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice on the cross, for the price You paid that I may come close. Lord, please highlight any area in the space between that needs to be moved for me to move closer to You. I want You to come to me and make a home with me afresh. Amen.
